Breathtaking Soul
My momma always told me that it was better to be kind than to be pretty.
For many years, I didn’t believe her, because I bought into the lies of the #beautymyth hook, line, and sinkHER…
I believed that if my skin wasn’t perfect enough, my body wasn’t thin enough, and my makeup wasn’t flawless enough, then I would never be found worthy of love (sound familiar to anyone?)
These ugly lies about beauty almost killed me.
Literally.
And the collateral damage they left in their wake was devastating.
Eating disorders.
Failed marriages.
Mental breakdown.
Suicidal ideation.
Financial collapse.
Spiritual bankruptcy.
I believed that who I really was—after all the makeup was washed off my face—would never be enough, and that big lie undermined, infiltrated and sabotaged my life in every way possible.
But Light will find it’s way into the darkest corner.
And so will Truth.
Through the Grace of God I got a second chance to define Beauty for myself, and this time that definition became a crown instead of a crutch, served as a tool instead of a trap, and gave me purpose instead of pain.
Here is that new definition that not only saved my life, but fundamentally transformed it:
“True Beauty is not a reflection of the way we look, but a result of the way we live.”
I stand by these words.
Even though I work as a professional artist in film and television and teach seminars and courses on how to use makeup effectively, authentically, and unforgettably, I know this to be true.
The kind of True that you feel in the bones of your soul.
This year I am rolling out some exciting and inspiring ways to celebrate True Beauty and the women who emulate it.
I hope you will join me, and share the things that touch your heart with the women you love.
It’s time for a Real Beauty Revolution.
Who’s with me?
